 About Cynthia Brooks Nickerson
Cynthia Brooks Nickerson is a communication specialist with extensive experience in media, health communication, and community engagement.
Cynthia is CEO of Cynthia Brooks Media, a communications firm that helps entrepreneurs develop and perfect media skills such as on-camera presence, storytelling, media relations and copywriting.
Additionally, Cynthia is producer and host of Urban Wellness NOW!, a podcast about health and wellness in the African American community. Cynthia’s media skills developed from a two-decade career as a news anchor/health reporter for television and radio stations in Louisiana, Florida, and Virginia.
Cynthia has a range of experience in promoting health issues. She served as Assoc. Director for Black Media, in the Health Communications division of the Planned Parenthood Federation, promoting sexual and reproductive health issues to Black communities through media.
Cynthia was also a Media Advocacy Specialist for the Institute for Public Strategies, a Los Angeles health non-profit that advocates for policies and programs that improve health and safety in communities.
Additionally, Cynthia worked at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in Houston, where she used media strategies and community engagement to increase minority participation in the Bone Marrow Donor Registry.Â
Cynthia also developed a video production company that produced marketing and promotional videos for nonprofits and wrote several grants that funded medical documentaries that aired for independent television.Â
Cynthia earned a Master of Science in Health Communication from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California.
She is a native of Los Angeles, serves as Marketing Representative for the LA South Chamber of Commerce, is a graduate of the Los Angeles African American Women’s Public Policy Association, a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the National Council of Negro Women.
