 About Michelle Petties

  • Michelle Petties is a TEDx speaker, award-winning author, and food addiction recovery expert whose work sits at the powerful intersection of food, emotion, trauma, performance, and personal power. She is the author of Leaving Large – The Stories of a Food Addict, a 2022 category winner of The Memoir Prize.
  • Michelle has presented at high-profile conferences, universities, libraries, and international convenings, including the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) and the World Obesity Congress in 2023, 2024, and 2025.

  • She is a regular contributor to Sisters From AARP and The Baltimore Times, where she explores how our personal narratives shape our health choices and life outcomes.

  • Before stepping fully into her purpose-driven work, Michelle spent decades as a top-performing executive in the high-pressure media and advertising industry, representing influential brands such as Radio One, Disney/ABC, and NPR/PBS member stations. But the stress of constant performance took a toll on her mental and physical health.

  • Her message is clear: healing is possible, truth is freeing, and the work is worth it. She believes high-achieving Black women deserve not just success — but peace, wholeness, and a healthy relationship with themselves.
