What is a Digital Asset (And Why You Need to Own One)
Hey Sis,
I'm glad you're here. 🤎
The world has changed. Wealth is no longer just about land, bricks, or stock portfolios. In today's digital world, driven by the internet, social media, and AI, digital assets are emerging as the new wealth builders.
And if we don't wake up and start building NOW, our community will be left behind.
But here's the good news: You're here. You're reading this. And that means you're already ahead.
Today, I want to answer the question I get asked most:
"What exactly IS a digital asset? And why do I need one?"
Let me break it down for you.
What is a Digital Asset?
A digital asset is anything you create and own online that has the potential to generate revenue, now or in the future.
Think of it like this:
You know how people build wealth through real estate? They buy property, rent it out, and it generates income month after month, year after year. The property grows in value over time. It's an asset.
Digital assets work the same way, but online.
Instead of buying land or buildings, you're creating something digital that:
✅ You own (not rented from a platform)
✅ Generates revenue (or has the potential to)
✅ Grows in value over time (compounds and scales)
✅ Works for you (even when you're not actively working on it)
Here are some examples of digital assets:
🎙️ Podcast: builds authority, attracts listeners, opens doors for sponsorships
📰 Email List/Newsletter: your #1 owned audience; no algorithm can take it away
🎥 YouTube Channel: content that lives forever and brings in views for years
📚 Online Course: package your knowledge once, sell it many times
💻 Membership Site: recurring revenue from a community you serve
📊 Templates & Digital Products: low ticket offers that scale
🤖 Automated Sales Funnel: a system that sells for you 24/7
All of these are things you build, you own, and you control.
Real World Ownership in Action

Let me make this real for a moment.
Before Insecure was an HBO hit, Issa Rae created a low-budget YouTube series called The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. She didn't wait for permission. She didn't pitch a network first.
She built and owned the digital asset.
That YouTube series attracted millions of views, built a loyal audience, and most importantly, gave her leverage. When HBO came calling, she wasn't just talent. She was the creator, the owner, and the executive producer.
That's the difference ownership makes.
She didn't just get paid once. She built something that opened doors, created long-term income, and positioned her for generational opportunity.
That's a digital asset.
Why This Matters for Black Women
Here's the truth we need to face:
Black women are opening businesses at the fastest rate of any demographic, but most of us are building on rented platforms (social media, marketplaces, other people's systems).
We're creating incredible content, offering valuable services, and working harder than anyone else.
But we're not OWNING enough.
Ownership is where real wealth is built.
Digital assets give you:
💰 Recurring revenue: Money that comes in even when you're not working
🕒 Time freedom: Systems that run without you being there 24/7
👑 Legacy: Something you can pass down and build upon for years
This is about more than just making money. This is about building generational wealth.
My Story: From Busy to Building

A few years ago, I was working myself to the bone. Coaching clients, running programs, creating content, but everything required ME to be there.
I was busy, but I wasn't building.
Then I asked myself: "What do I actually OWN in my business?"
The answer scared me. I had followers, clients, and programs, but I didn't have anything that worked FOR me.
So I started building digital assets. First, my email list. Then my podcast. Then courses and automated funnels.
And here's what happened:
✅ I started making sales while I slept
✅ My content kept bringing in clients months (even years) after I posted it
✅ I had FREEDOM, real freedom, to step away without my income disappearing
That's the power of ownership, sis.
🎙️ FROM THE QUEEN OF FUNNEL SHOW:
Building a digital asset is one thing. Building a funnel that turns that asset into consistent revenue? That's where the magic happens.
Every week on The Funnel Queen Show, I map out the exact funnel a woman in business needs to attract the right audience, nurture trust, and convert consistently.
It's not a masterclass. It's a front row seat to watch how funnels are actually built, step by step, live.

✨ BLACK WOMEN WINNING:
One of our WIDB members started with ZERO digital assets a year ago. She committed to building ONE thing: a newsletter.
Today, she has over 800 subscribers, launched a $97 digital product, and just made her first $2,500 month from her email list alone.
This is what happens when we stop waiting and start building. 💪🏾
💭 REAL TALK:
I know the idea of building a "digital asset" might sound intimidating. Maybe you're thinking, "That's for tech people" or "I'm too late."
But let me tell you something: You are NOT too late. And you do NOT need to be a tech genius.
The fact that our ancestors survived what they survived, crossed oceans they didn't choose to cross, and STILL built businesses, raised families, and created legacies?
We come from builders. This is in our DNA.
Now it's our turn to build something that lasts. Something we OWN.
And it starts with one digital asset.
YOUR NEXT STEP:
Think about this question: "If I could only build ONE thing that generates revenue for me long term, what would it be?"
Reply and tell me. I want to know what you're thinking about building. 🖤
Let's build together,
Natalia.
P.S. Next week, we're talking about how to use social media to BUILD your digital assets (not just collect followers). You won't want to miss it.
