Feature Story: From Corporate Climb to Conscious Liberation
For as long as she could remember, Marissa Price was determined to succeed.
Growing up in the United States, she mastered the art of overachievement — working hard, excelling in every role, and striving to prove her worth in environments not designed for her flourishing.
She built an extraordinary career in banking, managing compliance reporting for over $250 million in community development investments and helping secure $180 million in federal funding for underrepresented communities.
On paper, she was thriving.
But behind the spreadsheets and promotions, something was breaking.
The weight of perfectionism.
The exhaustion of code-switching.
The quiet ache of pouring from an empty cup.
“The spaces I worked in were often toxic and detrimental to my mental health,” she says. “I had checked every box of what success was supposed to look like, but I was disconnected from myself.”
The Turning point
Everything shifted when Marissa stumbled upon online communities of Black women around the world — women building lives anchored in healing, joy, and freedom.
“I realized success at the expense of my health and wholeness wasn’t success at all,” she says.
That realization became her moment of liberation.
She walked away from traditional spaces and began building something new — a life and business grounded in peace, purpose, and self-sovereignty.
The transition wasn’t easy. There were days of doubt and disorientation, moments when the structure and certainty of corporate life called her back. But she chose to stay rooted in the vision of something freer.
The Rebuild: Purpose as a Practice
Today, Marissa is an International Speaker, Healing Practitioner, and Digital Business Strategist who helps Black women escape toxic work environments and build digital businesses from the skills they already have.
Her philosophy is simple but powerful:
“You don’t need to start over to step into freedom. You just need to remember your brilliance.”
Through her programs and coaching, she helps women silence their inner critic, recover their self-worth, and build sustainable, soul-aligned income streams.
And one of her proudest creations is the Job Liberation Virtual Summit for Black Women, which she co-founded with Dr. Kimani Norrington-Sands.
It’s become a global space of possibility — a community where hundreds of women gather to reimagine what life can look like beyond survival.
“In those sessions, I see women light up,” she says. “They realize they don’t have to stay stuck. They can thrive.”
Wisdom & Advice
On success:
“If success costs you your peace, it’s too expensive.”
On healing:
“Freedom is an inside job. You can’t liberate your life if you’re still chained by your old definitions of success.”
To her younger self:
“Rest doesn’t make you lazy. It makes you powerful.”
On work and purpose:
“We were never meant to just survive systems that drain us. We were meant to create new ones.”
Daily Practices That Keep Her Grounded
- Morning stillness — no screens, just gratitude and journaling
- Aromatherapy and short meditations between tasks
- Intentional work windows with scheduled breaks
- Weekly digital detox days to recharge
- Closing the day with reflection and prayer
“Freedom isn’t just about time or money — it’s about designing a life where your body, mind, and spirit can finally exhale.”
Vision Forward
Marissa’s mission is to help thousands of Black women shift from burnout to brilliance — not by chasing hustle culture, but by creating sustainable digital paths to liberation.
