From Financial Collapse to Foundational Clarity: Alberta McKinney on Mindset, Mastery, and the Business of Business
Today we feature Alberta McKinney — Foundational Business Coach, financial strategist, and mindset mentor for visionary entrepreneurs. Her story is one of radical resilience: from losing it all in the 2008 crash to rebuilding stronger, wiser, and more determined than ever to teach others how to master the business of business.
Born to Build: The Early Spark
Before the licenses, coaching calls, and speaking engagements, Alberta McKinney was just a determined young woman in Miami with a clear goal: move forward.
As the middle child of seven, she learned independence early. By high school, she was already in the Junior Achievement Program for aspiring entrepreneurs, graduating ahead of schedule and entering the world ready to work.
Her entrepreneurial spark first lit up at the Post Office — where she sold Avon on the side and discovered something bigger than perfume sales: the thrill of business ownership. “It wasn’t about the money,” she says. “It was about the independence. The freedom. That’s when I knew this was my lane.”
Building From the Ground Up
One conversation changed everything.
A colleague introduced Alberta to the world of financial services — and soon, she was licensed to sell insurance, mutual funds, and annuities. From there, her career accelerated. She became a financial consultant and real estate investor, working with major clients and helping teachers, hospital employees, and business owners build financial stability.
But then came 2008 — the year that changed it all.
When the global financial crash hit, Alberta lost nearly everything. “I was rolling high,” she recalls, “and then the market collapsed overnight. Deals disappeared. Money evaporated. I had to start from zero.”
Instead of walking away, she asked a powerful question: Why did I fall when Fortune 500 companies survived?
The answer became her life’s work.
It wasn’t just knowledge — it was structure. It was mindset. It was the business of business.
The Birth of a Strategy: Understanding the Business of Business
From that revelation came her signature coaching framework — “Understanding the Business of Business.”
Alberta realized most entrepreneurs fail not because of talent or ideas, but because they lack foundational systems. Through her program, she teaches clients to combine business structure with mindset mastery — creating growth that lasts.
“It’s not just about sales,” she says. “It’s about sustainability. You can’t scale what you don’t structure, and you can’t lead what you don’t understand.”
Her approach blends faith, strategy, and focus — helping entrepreneurs shift from surviving to leading.
Mindset: The Real Million-Dollar Skill
For Alberta, business isn’t just numbers — it’s mental stamina.
She’s lived through the highs and lows and knows what it takes to rebuild. “Once I unlocked my inner potential, strength, and power, I became unstoppable,” she says. “The mindset traps you. Once you master it, you master everything else.”
Her philosophy is simple: expect challenges. “Leaders know the road ahead is tough,” she says. “But every obstacle builds muscle. That’s the weight of business — and I carry it with pride.”
A Coach With Conviction
Today, Alberta is a sought-after Foundational Business Coach, mentoring entrepreneurs across industries. Her mission is clear — to help others avoid the pitfalls she once faced.
She reminds clients that success doesn’t happen overnight. “Business isn’t about quick wins,” she says. “It’s about consistency, discipline, and mindset. You don’t run a business the same way you run your household. It requires structure, systems, and strategy.”
Through her one-on-one coaching and workshops, she’s building a community of Black entrepreneurs who not only succeed but sustain — with excellence and integrity at the core.
The Legacy She’s Building
Alberta’s legacy is not built on wealth alone — it’s built on wisdom.
She’s creating a world where Black business owners rise with strategy, not struggle. Where they understand their numbers, systems, and worth.
“I want to leave behind a community of confident, capable entrepreneurs,” she says, “who build businesses that strengthen our families and future generations. My goal is to help us move from hustle to harmony.”
Why We Love Alberta’s Story
Because she reminds us that failure isn’t final — it’s formative.
Because she shows that resilience isn’t loud — it’s strategic.
And because every time she teaches the business of business, she’s really teaching the business of becoming.
