I Thought I knew Myself Till I Didn't
Natalia Nicholson Google-Certified Digital Marketing Coach Founder of Women in Digital Business
She never imagined she’d end up as a business strategist.
She had always been drawn to the magic of business strategy, even before she knew what to call it.
Her journey started as an intern at MTV, working alongside presenter Tim Cash. Like any intern, her role was primarily to observe but she took it a step further. She didn’t just watch; she studied. She took notes on how businesses operated, how teams stayed motivated, and how strategies turned into success.
She moved from MTV to a record label, then to PR, and later into project management. Every role she took on, she gave her all. Her work ethic was undeniable. She was the type to choose an unpaid internship doing something she loved over a well-paid admin job that left her uninspired.
But in 2019, everything changed.
Josephine Owusu, the high-achiever, the woman who always went above and beyond, was laid off from her role as a Project Manager. The confidence she had in herself took a hit. She had never imagined being told that her services were no longer needed.
But what seemed like a painful setback was actually a redirection.
She used her network to start her own Virtual Assistant agency, slowly gaining confidence in her ability to run a business. And then, something unexpected happened. A mentor introduced her as a “Business Strategist” and for the first time, she saw herself that way too.
That moment changed everything.
Today, Josephine is the founder of The Owusu Collective, a business strategy agency dedicated to helping creative female entrepreneurs bring their dreams to life. She also leads The Cheerful Business Club, a charity organisation empowering women in business to step into their God-given potential.
My Reflection:
Josephine’s story is a powerful reminder that sometimes, we don’t recognise our own brilliance until someone else reflects it back to us. And more importantly, clarity doesn’t always come before the journey, it comes along the way.
Question for you:
What setback in your life can become a stepping stone to greater success?
